Introduction

MEMS is a miniature system having both mechanical and electronic components and are manufactured using the techniques of microfabrication. Their physical dimension may vary from less than a μm to several mm. Because of their smaller size, they require less power. These systems are capable to sense, control and actuate at the micro level and cause effects at micro level. Microsensors, Microactuators, Micro-mirror arrays, Micronozzles and Tiny gyroscopes are few examples of MEMS. Microfluidics refers to control and manipulate fluids in the range of microliters (10-6) to picolitres (10-12) in microstructures. Microfluidic systems are used to transport, separate, mix or process fluids. They find their applications in cell sorting, particle/fiber synthesis, diagnostics and environmental testing, single cell analysis and many more.

Objective

This is a comprehensive book presenting up to date research and developments on MEMS and Microfluidic systems for environmental monitoring, particle trapping, measuring mechanical properties of cells, droplet sorting, micropumps, microvalves, detection of pathogenic microorganisms, separation and sorting of particles, paper-based microfluidic devices and many more.

This book is useful for beginners and advance level students, researchers, practicing engineers and academicians working in the field of MEMS and microfluidics or anyone who wish to gain knowledge of fabrication methods and working of MEMS and microfluidic devices/systems and updates that has taken place in these fields.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before July 20, 2022, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by August 3, 2022 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October 2, 2022, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Advances in MEMS and Microfluidic Systems. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
