Introduction

About: In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, recent long-term policy plans emphasize the ever-increasing need to transition to 21st-century skills and achieve sustainable development goals via preparing highly qualified nationals with credentials in STEM fields relevant to the current and future needs of the labor market. Yet, despite multiple educational reforms and substantial resources, national and international indicators of student performance still demonstrate insignificant improvement in MENA students’ achievement in STEM subjects.

Objective

Objective: The objective of this book is to contribute to the body of the existing STEM literature by exploring factors that influence student participation in STEM in the MENA countries. The intention is to also identify the gaps in STEM education research in MENA countries. This book presents the current practices and challenges in STEM education research in MENA countries.

Target Audience

Researchers in STEM and STEAM Education fields, Ministries of Education, UNESCO, educators

Recommended Topics

There will be one chapter per country and authors with promising proposals may be asked to collaborate with other authors writing about the same country to create single country-based chapters. Authors are welcomed to submit proposal that discusses the following: • Current innovations in STEM education in a specific MENA country. • Description STEM initiatives that integrate two or more STEM domains (e.g. science and technology; engineering, math and science etc…) • share challenges STEM education faces in this specific country • The development of STEM education in this country • Expansion from STEM to STEAM • Gender equality among Males / females in STEM education • Education systems, teachers, school administrations in relation to STEM education

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before October 8, 2022, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by October 22, 2022 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by February 5, 2023, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, STEM Education Approaches and Challenges in the MENA Region. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
