Introduction

Conversations, debates, and policies toward higher education remain in an uncritical mode of normality on issues such as inclusion/exclusion and equity. In addition, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has starkly highlighted the fragility of the higher education system and has raised salient questions related to inclusivity and quality in all aspects. This book will fill a gap in the existing literature by introducing current practices and procedures in the face of the new normal as they affect the higher education sector. It will further provide the knowledge base underpinned by theories, methodologies, and principles related to resource allocation, learning design models and effective academic development interventions. The text provides the experiences and lessons gained, particularly during this unprecedented time. There are considerable lessons to be learnt, developed, and innovated during this time, and we would like to consolidate these into a concise collection for the benefit of the global higher education sector going forward.

Objective

The book is aimed to address the various issues of current interest in the higher education sector relative to teaching and learning, student support; staff development; curriculum development; educational technologies; learning design models and resource allocation. The book will make a significant contribution in that it focuses on the future of higher education globally. The book draws on the hands-on experiences of scholars as well as key findings of relevant research projects. The organizing themes of this collection are; resource allocation, learning design models and academic development.

Target Audience

The most relevant target audience are academics, academic developers, educators and students at universities and colleges. We believe there are considerable experiences that higher education institutions, academics, researchers, and administrators have encountered which can be translated into written materials that can inform the sector’s practices going forward.
