Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are the next generation of collaborative computational entities, with a primary focus on physical and cyberspace integration.Through a feedback mechanism, the system adapts itself to new conditions in real time. The scope of this book includes research experience by experts in CPS infrastructure systems, incorporating sustainability by embedding computing and communication in agricultural applications. The integration of CPS with blockchain, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, and communication lays the foundation for the fourth agricultural revolution, Agriculture 4.0. There are several contexts in which CPS can exist, one of which is the agricultural industry. When agriculture integrates with CPS, this is termed "precision agriculture." It can be defined as a methodology of enhanced decision making that associates effective management of farm practices with sensing devices, positioning systems from satellites, and the integration of computers to provide information. The cultivation of crops plays a very important role in agriculture. However, proper maintenance and management are required. Lack of such management would lead to crop loss or reduced crop yields. Hence, the ability to detect and identify the diseases on infected crops is a problem of increasing concern. Real-time disease detection systems do not exist in the current scheme of things. It requires tremendous amounts of work, expertise in plant diseases, and it also requires excessive processing time. Using precision agriculture techniques, combined with artificial intelligence, a great deal of manual work is reduced. This book will be of immense use to practitioners with a focus on autonomous and adaptive configuration, and on optimization, leading to increased agility, elasticity, and cost effectiveness.


The contributors of this book include renowned academics, industry practitioners, and researchers. It offers a rigorous introduction to the theoretical foundations, techniques, and practical solutions, through case studies. Building a agricultural CPS with effective communication, control, intelligence, and security is discussed in terms of societal and research perspectives. The objective of this book is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and to achieve progress in CPS by highlighting agricultural applications, advances, and research challenges. This book attracts contributions in all aspects pertaining to this multidisciplinary paradigm, in particular in its application to sustainable agriculture developments. The authors are expected to investigate state-of-art research issues, applications, and achievements in the field of Computational Intelligence Paradigms for agricultural CPS.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 18, 2022, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by December 5, 2022 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by February 16, 2023, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Contemporary Developments in Agricultural Cyber-Physical Systems. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
