Introduction

The challenges of sustainability are critical global issues that require collective action and concerted efforts to ensure that we maintain a sustainable future for generations to come. Education is an essential tool for achieving sustainability goals, as it plays a vital role in shaping the values, knowledge, and skills of individuals towards sustainable practices. Teaching and learning for sustainability is an essential aspect of education that needs to be highlighted, explored and shared. This book aims to provide innovative strategies and best practices for teaching and learning for a sustainable future.

Sustainability education involves a transformative process that aims to empower learners to become active agents of change in their communities, workplaces, and beyond. It encompasses a range of themes, including climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, social justice, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. Teaching and learning for sustainability is an interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral endeavour that requires a holistic approach that integrates environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

This book aims to provide a comprehensive collection of innovative strategies and best practices in teaching and learning for sustainability. It aims to showcase a variety of pedagogical approaches that can be used to address sustainability challenges and opportunities across different disciplines, levels of education and contexts. The book aims to inspire educators to incorporate sustainable practices into their teaching and to equip learners with knowledge, skills, and values necessary for a sustainable future.



Objective

The objective of this book is to provide a platform for educators, academics, researchers, policy makers, and students to share their experiences, insights, and best practices in teaching and learning for sustainability. The book seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse on sustainability education by showcasing innovative pedagogical approaches and strategies that can be adapted and applied across different contexts and disciplines. The book aims to inspire educators to incorporate sustainable practices into their teaching and to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for a sustainable future.



Target Audience

This book is intended for a diverse range of audiences interested in teaching and learning for sustainability. This includes educators, academics, researchers, policy makers, and students who are interested in sustainability education and its implications for different disciplines and sectors. The book is also relevant for individuals and organizations involved in sustainable development, environmental management, corporate social responsibility, and other related fields.



Recommended Topics

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Pedagogical approaches for teaching and learning for sustainability, including experiential learning, inquiry-based learning, problem-based learning, and project-based learning.
  • Innovative teaching tools and technologies for sustainability education, including online platforms, social media, virtual and augmented reality, and gamification.
  • Curriculum development and integration of sustainability in different disciplines and levels of education, including primary, secondary, tertiary, and professional education.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaborations and partnerships for sustainability education, including community-based learning, industry partnerships, and international collaborations.
  • Assessment and evaluation of sustainability education, including the use of rubrics, portfolios, and other assessment tools that capture learning outcomes related to sustainability.
  • Case studies and best practices in teaching and learning for sustainability, including examples from different sectors, regions, and contexts.


Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before May 2, 2023, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by May 16, 2023 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by August 30, 2023, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable Future: Innovative Strategies and Best Practices. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
