IGI Global Journal Special Issue Guest Editor Agreement
All articles appearing in IGI Global journals must follow a double-blind peer review process that is performed through the IGI Global eEditorial Discovery® online submission system. No individual may guest edit more than two special issues for IGI Global journals at one time.
Guest Editor Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting all article content for the special issue and providing a Guest Editorial Preface. If you are inviting contributions from a recent conference or workshop published by another publisher and/or held under copyright by another organization, the content must include 70% of new/rewritten content.
- Ensuring that the contributions within the special issue exemplify diversity, with contributing authors hailing from a variety of countries and institutions.
- Guest Editors may not submit their own articles (authored or co-authored) to the special issue. Instead, Guest Editors are encouraged to submit their work for consideration to a standard issue of the journal.
- Utilizing the IGI Global eEditorial Discovery® online submission system in the special issue preparation process. This includes:
- Having the contributors upload their own papers into the eEditorial Discovery® online submission system. Also, ensuring that all articles adhere to the IGI Global formatting and submission guidelines and that all necessary documents such as the signed Author’s Warranty and Transfer of Copyright Agreement are provided.
- Coordinating and monitoring the double-blind peer review process of manuscripts within the eEditorial Discovery® online submission system.
- Corresponding with authors for revisions and rewrites.
- Providing authors of accepted manuscripts with IGI Global’s "Guidelines for Preparing Accepted Manuscripts", available at www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/, and enforcing the concept to authors that the final paper they submit must be in publishable form, i.e., copyedited and proofed. Major changes such as moving and/or deleting paragraphs, sections, etc., will NOT be permitted during the author proofing stage.
- Selecting articles (and their order) for inclusion within the special issue. The special issue must contain a minimum of four articles, with a total word count of 25,000-40,000 words. A maximum of 6 papers and/or a maximum of 100 pages can be published in a special issue.
- Notifying authors of acceptance or rejection decisions.
- Reminding authors of accepted articles to digitally sign the Author’s Warranty and Transfer of Copyright Agreement located on the “Author” tab within the eEditorial Discovery® online submission system or at www.igi-global.com/publish/resources/journalwarranty.pdf
- IGI Global is a full member of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), mandating the highest level of a quality peer review process for its journals. Under no circumstance may any IGI Global EIC or Guest Editor consider any kind of renumeration, payments or traded favors in return for expedited review process or acceptance of any submitted work.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE YOUR SPECIAL ISSUE PROPOSAL MAY HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE JOURNAL EDITOR(S)-IN-CHIEF, IF ANY OF THE RESPONSIBLITIES INDICATED ABOVE ARE NOT FULLY EXECUTED OR CONDUCTED IN A MANNER THAT IS DEEMED ACCEPTABLE BY THE EDITOR(S)-IN-CHIEF OR THE PUBLISHER, THE SPECIAL ISSUE AND ALL OF ITS CONTENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED.
IGI Global Journal Special Issue Guest Editor Agreement Gold Open Access Journals
All article manuscripts appearing in IGI Global journals must follow a double-blind peer review process that is performed through the IGI Global eEditorial Discovery® online submission system.
Guest Editor Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting all article manuscripts for the special issue. If inviting contributions from a recent conference or workshop published by another publisher and/or held under copyright by another organization, the content must include 70% of new/rewritten content.
- Ensuring that the contributions within the special issue exemplify diversity, with contributing authors hailing from a variety of countries and institutions.
- Providing a guest editorial preface or a letter from the editor for the special issue.
- Guest Editors of special issues in process with a Gold Open Access Journal may collectively submit up to two (2) article manuscripts of their own to the special issue, however, their manuscript(s) must be managed and assigned for review by someone not listed as an author on the manuscript(s). Guest Editors will be held to the same Article Processing Charge (APC) fee (which also includes eligibility for the same APC discounts, waivers, and subsidies as all other article manuscript contributors)
and peer review process standards as all other article manuscript submissions to the special issue. Please note that Guest Editors are encouraged to consider submitting their work for consideration to a standard issue of the journal in lieu of to their own special issue.
Full transparency surrounding the peer review process for their manuscript(s) must be disclosed to the Editor(s)-in-Chief of the journal as well as to the publisher, specifically, clarifying who assigned the manuscript(s) for peer review, who reviewed it/them, and ultimately who accepted it/them. Additionally, the Guest Editors of the special issue also must clarify in the editorial preface or letter from the editor, the peer review process executed on the full issue, and most importantly the peer review process conducted on any manuscripts authored by the Guest Editors.
- For special issues in process with a Gold Open Access Journal, the special issue Guest Editors will receive two (2) APC waivers for the special issue that they may utilize at their discretion, either covering their own manuscripts’ APC fees or they may allocate them to other manuscript submissions to the special issue. If the special issue happens to have funding secured by the Guest Editors that will cover the APCs for all article manuscripts planned for publication within the special issue, it is important that the Guest Editors disclose this information to the publisher upfront (before the call for papers for the special issue is issued out).
- Payment of the APC fee (directly to the publisher) by the author or a funding body is not required until AFTER the manuscript has gone through the full double-blind peer review process and been formally accepted based on the results of the double-blind peer review process. Please note that there is absolutely NO correlation between the APC (Article Processing Charge) being paid by the author and the results of review process outcomes. Please also note that IGI Global cannot schedule the article for publication or publish the article until payment has been received. The APC can only be set and collected by IGI Global.
- Utilizing the IGI Global eEditorial Discovery® online submission system in the special issue preparation process and overseeing the full management of the special issue. This includes:
- Having the contributors upload their own manuscripts into the eEditorial Discovery® online submission system. Also, ensuring that all manuscripts adhere to the IGI Global formatting and submission guidelines and that all necessary documents such as the signed Author’s Warranty (to ensure originality of the work) are provided. (Note: the Author’s Warranty is located on the “Author” tab within the eEditorial Discovery® online submission system)
- Coordinating and monitoring the double-blind peer review process of manuscripts within the eEditorial Discovery® online submission system.
- Based on the peer review outcomes, formulate recommendations regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts. Please note that it is ultimately at the discretion of the Editor(s)-in-Chef of the journal whether or not manuscripts will be formally accepted and subsequently published. Decisions regarding acceptance or rejection should not be dispatched out to authors until the Editor(s)-in-Chief has/have had the opportunity to review all commentary and make a final determination on the acceptance or rejection of the manuscripts.
- Corresponding with authors for revisions and rewrites.
- Providing authors of accepted manuscripts with IGI Global’s "Guidelines for Preparing Accepted Manuscripts", available at www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/, and enforcing the concept to authors that the final manuscript they submit must be in publishable form, i.e., copy edited and proofed. Major changes such as moving and/or deleting paragraphs, sections, etc., will NOT be permitted during the author proofing stage.
- Selecting article manuscripts (and their order) for inclusion within the special issue. The special issue must contain a minimum of eight (8) article manuscripts (note: there is no maximum cap for special issues in process for gold open access journals).
- IGI Global is a full member of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), mandating the highest level of a quality peer review process for its journals. Under no circumstance may any IGI Global EiC or Guest Editor consider any kind of remuneration, payments, or traded favors in return for an expedited review process or acceptance of any submitted work.
