Karla Bradford-Humphrey

K. Bradford-Humphrey is a doctoral student at Georgia State University working on a doctorate in education in the Curriculum and Instruction program with a concentration in Language and Literacy. She holds an M.A.T. in Adapted Special Education from Georgia State University. She has dedicated her career to researching the impact of exclusionary practices on students with disabilities in inclusive English Language Arts general education settings. With over 10 years of experience working with children with diverse needs and cultural backgrounds, Bradford-Humphrey has dedicated herself to the service of others and the field of education with hopes of becoming a change agent and supporting others through advocacy and grassroots movements. Her passion for the field of education and individuals and students with disabilities extends beyond academia, as she actively engages in disabilities advocacy and education research to critically examine and shed light on matters of students with disabilities to better implement their transition into adults with disabilities. She serves as a mentor teacher with the Induction Support Partnerships and a student committee member on the Clinical Partnerships Induction Committee board both at Georgia State University. KBradford-Humphrey’s commitment to serving students with disabilities and raising critical awareness about pressing educational inequities that students with disabilities face daily has earned her recognition and award as a recipient of the Nicholas Castricone Memorial Scholarship. In this chapter, KBradford-Humphrey draws upon her extensive expertise and hands-on experience to explore the challenges and opportunities in the field of disability critical studies, narrative inquiry, and education research by providing invaluable critical consciousness and insights into the crucial task of advocating for change, protect the rights and future generations of students with disabilities, and using students as resources to better understand their needs.
