Reviews & Statements

Prof. Sriya Chakravarti provides her insight of the WBUR piece, “How children are taught to read faces a reckoning”:

"What's your greatest dream in life?... His greatest dream was to learn to read." This struggle is real. I have seen countless students and adults across the globe struggle with reading. Sometimes, it is the language barrier that comes in the way, as I see students convert the text into their mother tongue, other times, students prefer visuals and numbers over text because words jump at them and confuse them. Many times, I have come across students that can make some meaning out of words, and then there are others who can get in the zone and flow by taking the material to a different level of creativity, and turn the same text into music. I believe finding our individual flow is key to reading success. Maybe reading should be based on our interests, and I certainly believe when there is an interest for a subject, the craving to know more about it seeps in, and the mind/brain rewires itself to learn via reading.
