Abstract

This study evaluates the integration of Philippine history within the curriculum of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) and its role in fostering nationalism, cultural identity, and ethical values among cadets. A qualitative research design was employed, combining documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews with cadets, faculty members, and administrators. The findings reveal that Philippine history is currently incorporated primarily through general education courses, with limited emphasis on its application to maritime education. Stakeholders highlighted the need for a dedicated maritime history course, experiential learning opportunities, and interactive teaching methods to better engage cadets and cultivate essential competencies for global maritime leadership
