Mary Ann Becker
Mary Ann Becker currently divides her time between the United States and Paris, France. Travel brings her face to face with the unknown and allows her curiosity to be nourished. Becker obtained her BFA from Wichita State University in 1977 and her MFA in 1979 from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Becker’s current photographic work explores the ambiance of Parisian spaces and forests near Paris on foot. Walking has become an important part of her artistic practice. Becker is interested in the pareidolia found in nature, etc. and in developing a personal urban iconography. The camera is the tool she uses as a memory catcher and her images bear witness to the poetry of these ordinary moments. Becker is fascinated by the relationship between writing and images, the ways they can complement each other or fill a void that one or the other lacks. Both can emit powerful responses carrying the viewer or reader along with the experience.
