Abstract
This chapter examines the evolving role of faculty beyond traditional teaching functions, emphasizing their critical engagement in governance, policy-making, and institutional management. It explores how faculty participation strengthens shared governance, accountability, transparency, and academic integrity while fostering inclusive and evidence-based decision-making. The discussion highlights multiple dimensions of engagement, including curriculum innovation, strategic planning, accreditation, and leadership development. It also analyzes barriers such as bureaucratic dominance, workload pressures, and lack of incentives that hinder participation. Concluding with future directions, the chapter underscores the need for digital integration, leadership capacity building, and collaborative governance cultures to ensure institutional sustainability, innovation, and academic excellence in higher education.
