Abstract

The rapid technological evolution of the 21st century presents higher education institutions (HEIs) with challenges and opportunities to contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Digital leadership is crucial in bridging the gap between sustainability ambitions and practical implementation. This chapter examines the role of digital leadership in driving systemic change towards sustainability, focusing on how it aligns institutional strategies with the global sustainability agenda. It explores how digital tools can transform curricula, enhance learning, and improve operational efficiency. The chapter also identifies barriers HEIs face in adopting digital leadership, such as resistance to change and limited resources. Through case studies, it presents practical approaches for overcoming these challenges, promoting community engagement, and demonstrating digital leadership's pivotal role in advancing sustainable development within higher education.
