Abstract
Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a prevalent topic across the globe, particularly in academic institutions, as it has the potential to transform the teaching and learning process. Nonetheless, the emergence of AI also presents challenges that need to be addressed. This study delves into the role of AI in higher education, specifically in English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms. The aim is to explore how AI tools affect learning experiences in this context. To that end, the research follows a qualitative approach, including semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire with students and teachers to gain insights into the influence of AI in EFL settings. Through a thematic analysis, the implications of AI in higher education were assessed. It is anticipated that the findings will provide new avenues for future research, shedding light on how the integration of AI could help level the language playing field.
