Abstract

When considering an event, we need a sample of events to study. We will often start with a few example events that are ‘sort of what we want to study' and, from there, develop a deeper and more comprehensive focused category of events. Then, the overall sample consists of examples of this abstract category of events. When a good sample has been collected, the progress and analysis steps are relatively straightforward. However, failure to collect a good sample or skipping key considerations may doom a sample to become unusable and non-viable, risking the overall project. Although there are similarities, the process and considerations may be quite different from those of survey sampling that many readers may be familiar with.
