Abstract

This chapter examines how international student mobility is being reshaped by a rapidly changing global landscape. Rather than focusing solely on logistics or institutional policies, it explores how students and universities alike experience mobility in conditions of crisis, unpredictability, and transformation. Drawing on the concept of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity), the chapter examines how young people perceive and respond to global instability and what strategies help to sustain meaningful international engagement. Through comparative insights from Europe and Latin America, it identifies emerging values, such as adaptability, empathy, and resilience, as central to sustainable mobility. The chapter argues that internationalization must move beyond traditional models and engage with the lived realities of those navigating global education under pressure. It invites reflection on how mobility can be more inclusive, supportive, and responsive to the challenges of a volatile world.
