What is Smart Object

Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology, Third Edition
A smart object is a physical object extended with new capabilities beyond its usual operation by integrating information technologies. These new capability allow for capturing, storage and processing of information and for communicating with other smart objects or the intelligent environment.
