IGI Global Reintroduces the Outstanding Scholars Program in Honor of Dr. Patricia Cranton

By IGI Global on Dec 30, 2016
IGI Global Editor Travels To Myanmar IGI Global and Dr. Victor C. X. Wang wish to honor in memory one of our most acclaimed research scholars, the late Dr. Patricia Cranton, Professor of Adult Education.

Dr. Cranton spent her life in service to academia. Born in Hanna, Alberta, she first attended the Princeton School, a two-room schoolhouse in Craigmyle, Alberta. She went on to complete her BEd, MSc and PhD degrees which led her to her life in academia. Dr. Cranton taught at many universities in Canada and the United States, including McGill, Brock, Penn State, St FX, and Teacher’s College, New York. Her heart remained with the University of New Brunswick where she taught since 1988.

Dr. Cranton touched the lives of many students over the years. She was one of the finest scholars in adult education with dozens of books and hundreds of publications to her name; nearly 40 being IGI Global publications. Dr. Cranton was named to the Order of Canada for 2016 and was to receive the honor at their fall ceremony. Dr. Wang commented on her legacy in an editorial he provided for New Horizons in Adult Education and Human Resource Development: "Scholar, mentor, and humanist, Patricia Cranton touched the lives of numerous scholars and students, and leaves a formidable legacy to the field of education. Her passing in early 2016 left a significant gap in many lives and an important legacy in the adult education literature. [...] Her excellent contributions to our field will live on and be influential for many decades to come." Columbia University is scheduled to hold a memorial gathering for Dr. Cranton in January.

In honor of Dr. Cranton's exemplary contributions and remarkable achievements in research, IGI Global has reinstated the Outstanding Scholars Program in her honor. The Outstanding Scholars Program will continue to honor editors and authors of outstanding merit, encouraging discoverability and connecting researchers with the greater global community. Like Dr. Cranton, these scholars are the driving force behind modern academic inquiry and research innovation. By recognizing these individuals for their commendable work and effort, IGI Global seeks to continue in their mission of disseminating knowledge to the worldwide academic community.
