Common Core Mathematics Standards and Implementing Digital Technologies On April 20, 2016, The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) hosted the first in a series of international workshops “Fostering Dialogue to Explore the Ethics of Sharing Personal Information on Leisure and Fitness Applications: Towards Better Informed Consent.” This novel event brought together scholars and practitioners in the field from Canada and the U.S. (including representatives from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Macadamian, Health Canada, Canadian Public Health Association, CIHR, Ottawazine Globe Inc., Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Ohio University, Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies, etc.) with selected faculty, researchers, and graduate students at uOttawa (including Faculty of Law, Department of Classics and Religious Studies, Department of Communication, Institute for Science, Society and Policy, EBusiness Programs, etc.). The workshop initiated revolutionizing work in this complex area of applied theory and research.

With funding from the Faculty of Arts and the Diversity and Equity Research Group (DERG) at uOttawa, this event was organized by Dr. Rukhsana Ahmed, Associate Professor, Department of Communication, uOttawa in collaboration with Dr. Devjani Sen, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Communication, uOttawa. The workshop comprised two themed panel presentations followed by moderated discussions and group work activities. The significance of the multidisciplinary aspect of this workshop was to permit researchers and practitioners to engage in panel discussions with a diversity of audiences, thereby fostering a cross-sectional dialogue on ethical issues surrounding the sharing of personal information on mobile applications.
