Abstract
This chapter evaluates service-based learning as a tool in reducing students' inequality especially on the side of disadvantaged children. In collaboration with the Indian-based NGO Vidarbha Vaibhav, the authors also designed an online tool, which helps children of lower classes to learn basic programming languages to make them equipped with necessary computer skills for getting job in the future. This chapter reviews the literature on educational disparities, service learning, and use of technology on similar and related programs is an effort to note the key strengths and weaknesses. Some of them are readiness of volunteers, parents, and other socio cultural factors influencing the general performance. In this regard, the authors revealed that newly formats of media with the support of active community can make a great impact on students who have low results at school. This review would signify that in future service-based learning project, cultural learning, and community engagement should be adopted in order to enhance sustainability and scalability of community projects.
