IGI Global’s Response to Library Budget Challenges

By IGI Global on Aug 20, 2020

In our efforts to support the library community, IGI Global offers several programs and services designed to help alleviate the pressures of budget shortfalls that many are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this unprecedented time, the library’s role is essential in providing remote access to knowledge resources and librarians are pinnacle to the continuation of knowledge dissemination. As we recognize our own role in disseminating timely publications and knowledge, and as a privately-owned, medium-sized publisher, we can provide a more personalized service, agile solutions, and customized pricing to continually support libraries.

Below are some points detailing where IGI Global stands regarding some of the library community’s concerns.

Flexible Pricing and Access Models

IGI Global offers flexible and transparent pricing structures that make our content extremely affordable to institutions of all sizes. Below are some of the benefits of partnering with IGI Global:

  • Credit program: Analyzing past purchases and offering 100% credits to customers towards purchasing a collection (i.e. the InfoSci®-Databases).
  • No Price Increases: Multi-year agreements with no price increases with the ability to opt out 30 days before the renewal date.
  • Flexible Installment Plans: Ability to split payment into 2-3 installments to assist libraries in placing the investment in their current budget.
  • Multiple Purchase Options: Including perpetual and subscription models, Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA), and “Tiny Deal” article and chapter level purchasing with Patron Driven Access (PDA).
  • Dual Hosting: Ability to host content on IGI Global’s InfoSci platform and the aggregated platform of your choice.
  • Affordable Pricing on All Publications and Formats: This includes our current 50% discount on all our Major Reference Works in electronic format, up to a 25% discount on all other products and formats, and free worldwide shipping on orders over US$ 295 through IGI Global’s Online Bookstore. * See website for details.
  • Custom Solutions and Offers: We are also able to provide customizable solutions based on customer needs, including smaller collections and single title bulk discounts.

As IGI Global understands that no two institutions are the same, we are willing to work closely with each customer to find tailored solutions that work for their libraries and their patrons.

Open Access (OA) Policies – Transformative Model

In early 2018, well in advance of mandates like Plan S, IGI Global launched a transformative OA initiative, which allows librarians to use their acquisitions budgets to support their patrons in publishing under OA.

Under this initiative, when a library invests in our InfoSci-Databases, including InfoSci-Books, InfoSci-Journals, and/or any of their subset databases, we will match the library’s investment with a fund of equal value to go toward subsidizing the OA article processing charges (APCs) and book processing charges (BPCs) for their students, faculty, and staff when their work is submitted and accepted under OA into an IGI Global publication.

Furthermore, when a library becomes an InfoSci-Database customer, we are willing to apply the fund to retroactively apply the Creative Commons license to papers previously published under IGI Global’s standard publishing process.

Print to Electronic Conversion Through Your Preferred Library Platforms

IGI Global will assist in converting your previously acquired IGI Global print holdings to electronic directly through our InfoSci platform, ProQuest's Ebook Central®, or EBSCOhost.

To take advantage of this assistance, send us a list of IGI Global publications you would like to convert, and we will provide a 50% discount off the electronic version list price and promptly facilitate the setup and access. You may also contact your e-content provider's representative to request print to electronic conversion special pricing or our Database Team at eresources@igi-global.com.
