Dr. Robert Schultz' title reviewed in Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences annual alumni magazine

Technology versus Ecology Featured in Harvard University's "Colloquy"

By IGI Global on May 4, 2015
Technology versus Ecology IGI Global is proud to announce that Dr. Robert Schultz' publication, Technology versus Ecology: Human Superiority and the Ongoing Conflict with Nature, was recently featured in the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences' annual alumni magazine Colloquy.

The description of the book provided in the magazine follows:

Offers a dark and timely update of what Aldo Leopold, in his classic Sand County Almanac, termed a "land ethic." Like Leopold, Schultz critiques the human tendency to set ourselves above or outside the natural world. But Technology versus Ecology: Human Superiority and the Ongoing Conflict with Nature (IGI Global, 2014) goes further, asking whether science and technology are compatible with the planet's survival (and our own, as a species). He isn't optimistic. Science understands by abstracting and simplifying, but ecological inter-relationships are multifold and complex. And unhappy outcomes are near certain when technology is harnessed to short-term, profit-driven economic goals- like a steam engine without a safety valve.

John Karayan of Woodbury University, USA, also commented on the title: "This book presents the case for changing our extant attitudes of human superiority and exceptionalism in order to achieve the environmental equilibrium necessary to sustain our species.[…] Dr. Schultz presents a well-informed, comprehensive, and astute analysis of the place of technology in the relation of humanity to the world’s physical environment."

Technology versus Ecology: Human Superiority and the Ongoing Conflict with Nature is part of IGI Global's Research Essentials collection, a series of titles that offer a succinct discussion on niche topics in a wide variety of subjects. Sized and priced appropriately, these concise, advanced, and timely resources will be perfect for supplementary course usage, targeted towards instructors and students, as well as the independent researcher looking for the most recent and innovative research in their field.
