Gabor wavelets, a wavelet-based transform, could be used for feature extraction. It provides the optimized resolution in both time and frequency domain for time-frequency analysis, plus it has the optimal basis to extract local features for pattern recognition and it has three motivations: biological, mathematical, and empirical.
