Janice Moore Newsum

Janice Moore Newsum received a bachelor’s degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She earned a master's degree in early childhood education from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas. Janice has an MLIS and her PhD in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University. Dr. Newsum served the students of the Houston Independent School District (HISD) in the Department of Library Services as a school librarian, a Library Services Specialist, and as Manager of the Department of Library Services. She is currently employed as an Associate Professor at the University of Houston Clear Lake. Dr. Newsum has served as the Representative at Large on the Texas Library Association (TLA) Executive Board, as Co-chair of the TLA Diversity and Inclusion Committee, as a member of the AASL/CAEP Coordinating Committee, and as a Councilor for the TLA Library Instruction Round Table. She is the Chair of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards Round Table, and a member of the Florida State University iSchool iadvocacy Board. Her research interests include school librarian leadership and administration, library advocacy, diversity in literature, and technology applications.
