Policies & Ethical Guidelines
For more information on Open Access best practices for IGI Global publications, please view our policies:
OA Policy & Licensing
Under Open Access (OA), authors receive the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licensing arrangement. The copyright for the work remains solely with the author(s) of the article. Others may distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon the work, even commercially, without asking prior permission from the publisher or author and so long as they credit the author for the original creation. All authors are required to sign an author's warranty stating that the materials are original and unpublished elsewhere. The journal will not publish any material that has been previously published elsewhere.

Crowdfunding
Did you know that you can take a crowdfunding approach to OA publishing and have multiple funding bodies supporting your publication? No matter where the funding is secured from, the full amount does not have to come from just one source. If an editor is looking to publish a full open access book for instance, a portion of the funding may come from their institution’s library while the other portion is secured from a government funding agency. This concept can be applied to full books, full journals, journal special issues, journal articles, and book chapters. Multiple funders can support new works and/or the retrospective opening of publication projects so that work previously published under standard access can be converted to open access.
There are a number of crowdfunding platforms that authors and editors can use to generate funding for their publication projects – examples include: Kickstarter and Unglue.it, which are specifically designed to engage readers and provide funding to support publications.

Open Access Processing Charges
IGI Global OA publications (articles, full books, or book chapters) operate with open access processing charges paid by the author or another funding source or sources (unless waived). Article Processing Charges (APCs) and Chapter Processing Charges (CPCs) are not requested until AFTER the article or chapter manuscript has gone through a double-blind peer review process and is accepted into its respective publication. Authors of rejected manuscripts will not be expected to pay an APC or CPC.

Open Access Processing Charges exist to offset the fees of publication that were originally covered by subscription or reading costs of IGI Global’s publications. Since these publications are no longer bought or subscribed to by outside individuals or institutions, OA processing charges are crucial to sustain the publications and the publisher’s workflow. IGI Global's OA processing charges are under regular review and are subject to change. OA processing charges are set based on factors such as citation impact (journals), the publication's technical and editorial processes, competitive considerations, market conditions, as well as factoring in any other revenue streams that are currently associated with the publication. Below are some of the many things that the OA processing charges cover for both books and journals at IGI Global.
