Nivine Abbas

Nivine Abbas took a Certificate Degree from the Research Ethics Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Since 2014, she has held a PhD degree in Social Sciences and Environmental Studies from the Faculty of Behavioural, Management, and Social Sciences, University of Twente (Netherlands). Dr. Abbas’ professional experience reflects her multidisciplinary education, which includes a Master of International Affairs from the Lebanese American University and a Bachelor of Arts (in Archaeology) from the American University of Beirut. Until 2014, Dr. Abbas previous work included administrative responsibilities, writing project proposals, bringing funds for the centers, networking with NGOs and international organizations, and providing training to various actors on different topics, mainly personal skills topics, among others. In most of her working experience, she has been engaged with the community, whether in developmental project implementation or training. In addition, since 2004, Dr. Abbas has been involved in volunteering, advocacy, and training activities mainly related to community health and environmental health. From March until July 2014, she worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a public health officer in Tripoli and North Lebanon. Starting in November 2014, Dr. Abbas joined the University of Balamand as an assistant professor at the Public Health Department, Faculty of Health Sciences. She has been involved in teaching several graduate and undergraduate courses mainly related to environmental health, community health, urban planning and sustainable development, research, and public health ethics. Her research interest includes the following topics: public health ethics and research ethics education, social determinants of health, environmental health, sustainable development, and health education and health promotion.
