Rohit Rampal

PROFESSOR OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS Dr. Rohit Rampal received a Bachelors of Engineering (Hons.) in Electronics and Electrical Communication from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (now Thapar University), Patiala, India, an MBA in Marketing and Operations/Systems from the University Business School, Panjab University Chandigarh India and a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater Okla. He was on the faculty at the University of Rhode Island, and Portland State University before he joined SUNY Plattsburgh in 2007. Over his academic career, Dr. Rampal was also invited to teach in graduate and undergraduate programs in China, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Prior to starting in academia, Dr. Rampal worked as a control and automation engineer at NTPC Ltd. (an Electric Utility company in India), as a software systems associate at NIIT Ltd, in new product development at Network India Ltd., as head of the computer division at Bishara Establishment (Sultanate of Oman), and deputy marketing manager at PUNWIRE India. Dr. Rampal’s areas of research include innovative use of technology in learning, information security and ethics, information systems in manufacturing, virtual enterprises & networked organizations, business intelligence/analytics, medical decision support systems, and neural networks. He has published in several top quality journals like Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Education and Development using Information and Communication Technology, Academy of Marketing Studies Journal, Journal of Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues, Annals of Cases in Information Technology etc. He has presented his research at regional, national and international conferences where he has won multiple best paper awards. Dr. Rampal has been serving as an associate editor of the International Journal of Virtual Communities and Social Networking, since 2009. Dr. Rampal currently serves as the coordinator of the MIS minor in the School of Business and Economics.
