Segomotso Masegonyana Keakopa

Segomotso Masegonyana Keakopa (PhD) has a wealth of experience and expertise in archives and electronic records management. She has served in various portfolios in the areas of information and records management in Botswana and the East and Southern African region. She has worked at the Botswana National Archives and Records Services (BNARS) as an Archivist; Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) as Project Implementation Manager-Records Strategy and currently at the University of Botswana as Senior Lecturer. She is also a training Advisor for Zinjiva Information Brokers, South Africa. She currently serves as post-graduate supervisor (for M.A and PhD candidates); internal examiner and external examiner and reviewer of articles for International Journals across the world, notably in South Africa, Australia and Croatia. She has done research as well as consultancy in records management and is credited with several articles in international journals as well as book chapters. Her current research interests are electronic records management, e-government and impact of ICTs in archives and records management. During her career she has presented in conferences in South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Namibia, Senegal and UK. She has facilitated in many records management workshops in the country. Some of her key highlights in public/community serving research and consultancy activities in records and information management include: Development of a Strategic Plan for ESARBICA member countries to guide implementation of their Records Management Strategies (2015-2021); Implementation of Records Management Strategy for the Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) in 2012/2016 and the same for SADC in 2009; Development and Implementation of Records Management Strategy for Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), including preparation of tenders for their procurement of EDRMS and off-site storage facilities. She is also a graduate of the Management Development Programme (MDP) -University of Stellenbosch. She is currently the deputy editor of the ESARBICA Journal and Newsletter. Dr Keakopa’s recent assignment in June 2019 was training of the public sector on management of electronic records in Maputo and also students at Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique.
