This publication will make a signification contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning by outlining specific, evidence-based methods that can help to develop scholarly dispositions within the context of undergraduate and graduate education. While the scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education is a robust field, much remains unknown about how to teach dispositions. Specifically, it is still uncertain as to how to design the curriculum and pedagogy of higher education so to best cultivate the habits of mind, reflective practices, and scholarly skills that are essential to success in higher learning and academia. Likewise, it remains equally uncertain as to how to assess the development of these dispositions in a valid and reliable way. The aim of this publication is to address this gap in knowledge and to provide readers with a set of practical methods and strategies that can help higher education faculty and administrators to cultivate and assess the scholarly dispositions of their students more effectively.

This publication will be useful for all institutions of higher education and within any academic department that recognizes the value of developing the scholarly dispositions of its students, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. This resource will be especially valuable to faculty and administrators who work with students who themselves aspire to become researchers and scholars. Additionally, this publication will serve as a valuable resource to faculty learning communities and centers of teaching and learning within universities. Specifically, faculty engaged in collaborative self-study of their own curricular designs and pedagogical practices may be able to use this book as a way to catalyze conversation as well as a valuable resource in designing their own action research projects.
