Introduction

It isn't easy to imagine that the internet hasn't always been so integrated into our lives. Since the advent of the internet, many company communication duties have been carried out very differently, including seamless employee collaboration, an expanding number of communication channels, and the ability to instantly interact with clients anywhere in the globe. Because of how profoundly things have changed, it is nearly hard for people who were born after the internet's inception to fully comprehend life without it, and more developments are still to come (Apavaloaie, 2014). According to the Internet Society, researchers at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), under the direction of Lawrence G. Roberts and Leonard Kleinrock of MIT, developed the packet network known as ARPANET during the 1960s and 1970s. The internet evolved as a collection of various separate packet-switching networks utilizing ARPANET as the foundation. Over time, businesses and the armed services started communicating via ARPANET. Communities and scholars began utilizing the internet for email and research in 1985 (Crocker, 2021).

Before the internet, a businessman would start a store, publish advertisements in the local paper, join a networking group, and trust that the community would need what they had to give. Everything changed when the internet was invented. A company no longer depends on its local client because there is now a global market for its goods and services. The way that businesses engage with their personnel, find, and manage their competitors, and manage their customer base has all changed as a result of the internet (Liu et al., 2023). Small business owners may operate from anywhere thanks to the internet. For instance, a business owner on vacation can communicate with their workplace and exchange important documents with anyone, anywhere in the world, using live chat, messaging apps, or video meetings (Richmond et al., 2017). One example is the increasing importance of data security and protecting the company and customer information as the internet expands, and new communication technologies and channels emerge (Eddington et al., 2023).

Internal and external communication is essential for successful business operations. Contact between two or more entities and ensuring that each receives what they desire from the partnership are essential to a business's survival. Establishing the anticipated outcomes from both sides is essential to ensuring that the entities cooperate on the goals that have been set with the partnership (Matzler et al., 2015). The internet is a new method of communication, and in our opinion, various people use it and experience it differently. It is crucial to understand whether they believe that accurate information can be transmitted via the internet. Technology is heavily used in today's culture to facilitate communication and provide access to information (Hung & Khoa, 2021). There has never been a wider deployment of internet and online technology in history. Information and communication technologies have significantly influenced global economic growth over the past two decades. The use of online communication in businesses has considerably increased since the development of the internet. And this chapter is all about the importance of the internet and online communication in businesses (Rong et al., 2015).
