Abstract

This study seeks to examine the diverse patterns related to exploring the fusion of neuroscience and leadership through bibliometric analysis based on prior research in this field. It also delves into the primary topic and prospects for forthcoming investigation. The present study used electronic Scopus databases, encompassing all significant previous studies published from 1989 to 2023. Only 803 research papers were retrieved from the Scopus database. This bibliometric analysis employs content analysis that discusses the methodology, year-wise contribution trends, and leading countries in the area of research. Secondly, bibliometric analysis is done using VOS-Viewer software and includes analyses based on bibliographic coupling, co-occurrence, and co-authorship analyses, which give numerous graphical illustrations of the network of research items. Thirdly, thematic mapping is done, which helped identify the different clusters in our topic and the latest contributions, in which new topics emerge and new methodologies are applied to study the fusion of neuroscience with leadership.

1. Introduction

Neuro-leadership is the application of neuroscience to explore the process of leadership behavior. As a complex idea, leadership has been studied in great detail throughout history. Its complexity results from the interaction of environmental, organizational, and behavioral factors that are always changing and influencing how we see leadership (Greenwood, 1996). It is the combination of neuroscientific tools with social science, a behavioral approach to interdisciplinary learning, and the implications. This approach has aided in a better understanding of neurological systems that help a leader’s decision-making, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal connections. As a result, neuro-leadership has become a very important component of leadership quality. The curiosity about science encouraged the advancement of neuro-leadership research. Neuroscience, which is the subject of neuro-leadership, is a field of research that investigates the interactions of neurons that underpin human behavior and their effects. Neuro-leadership, taken as the ability to connect brain areas with leadership behaviors, seeks to strengthen leadership skills through the use of neuroscience research. Neuro-leaders guide their firms and employees by creating a management strategy based on the study of brain science (Gkintoni, 2022). Neuroscience offers tremendous prospects for advancement for leaders and managers by investigating biological and neurochemical processes in the brain, such as emotional intelligence and decision-making. Academics may develop more practical theories and leadership styles for properly understanding neural behaviour.

Although, all-embracing volume of literature is available on neuro-leadership, there is a dearth of thorough studies that specifically attempt to comprehend the patterns, trends, and knowledge gaps in this burgeoning area. In order to offer a thorough bibliometric examination of the existing neuro-leadership literary work, the current study will lay out the academic terrain in a methodical manner, exposing the network of knowledge and groups along with the field's progression and research boundaries. This study's importance resides not only in the chronicle growth of neuro-leadership but also in its illuminating overview of the primary drivers and studies in these areas, which will help future academic endeavors and industrial shifts around neuro-leadership. The study specifically aims to address the subsequent research concerns:

What is the state of neuro-leadership research at the moment?

Which important researchers, institutions, and nations are spearheading the developments in the field of neuro-leadership?

Which research journals and publishers serve as the focal points for cutting-edge studies on neuro-leadership?

Which significant publications have shaped the path of neuro-leadership research?

This study offers a chance to thoroughly understand the state of neuro-leadership research due to its comprehensive nature. An exhaustive understanding of the textual landscape, essential concepts, and research clusters in the area of neuro-leadership becomes apparent with the through use of bibliometric and network analytic methodologies. Its conclusions will play a critical role in shaping future developments of more efficient and long-lasting procedures that adapt to the rapidly evolving regulatory and technical environments. The overall goal of the present research work is to sketch out the complex arena of neuro-leadership. With the aim of promoting an enhanced dynamic and sustainable work environment and culture within businesses, it seeks to provide a clear picture of the field's past, present, and future through methodical study.
