Abstract

The maritime industry is under the influence of Industry 4.0. This revolution will cause the skill needs of the officer class to differ. In this study, future officer skill requirements were first analysed by researching existing technologies. Then, in the continuation of the study, a survey was conducted with the human resources managers of 10 shipowner companies. Thus, job application collection and officer selection criteria current human resources practices have been determined in general terms. As a result of the data obtained, officer recruitment practices were proposed, and recommendations were made so that the shipowner companies do not experience problems related to the competency of the ship's officers in the future.

Human Resources Management

The task of human resources management in enterprises includes recruiting, placing and increasing the effectiveness of personnel to be employed as managers or at lower levels (Wintermantel & Mattimore, 1997). The general duties of human resources management can be listed as follows;
