Abstract

During the 2019/2020 academic year, a learning experience built based on the famous cooking show Master Chef was implemented. This was executed in the specialization in Physical Education of the teaching Master's degree. During this experience, candidates (the student body) had to face different weekly challenges (individual, in groups, and eliminatory) based on the ingredients (course contents) that were presented weekly by the chef (the professor). This proposal was built using active methodologies as a reference, turning the student body into the protagonists of their learning process and encouraging those competencies that a good teacher needs in their day-to-day life. The authors ensured that the essence of the original program, characterized by requiring good time-managing skills, continuous decision making, or necessary emotional management, was maintained. At the same time, they took special care of details such as aesthetics or the language employed in Master Chef. Results show the viability and potential of this type of approach in the formative process of future teaching staff.

Development Of The Proposal

This project was developed throughout the 2019/2020 academic year in the university master's degree for student teachers who would go on to specialize in physical education in compulsory secondary education and baccalaureate, vocational training and language teaching. It was carried out in the subject Learning and Teaching of Physical Education (group C, with a total of 30 students), which belongs to the specific module and has a teaching load of 12 ECTS credits. The teaching period lasted from November 28 to February 20, with a total of three classes per week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 16:00h to 18:30h).

To explain the different phases of this learning experience, the proposal by Sotoca and Pérez-López (2019) will be taken as a reference, since many of the aspects pointed out by the authors (the opportunity, the adventure -the premiere and the experience-, the allies -motivation triggers and technology of the information and communication- and the cherry on the cake) enable us to perfectly describe the design and implementation of the adaptation of the Master Chef television program to the teaching master's degree, as will be detailed below.
