Abstract

This first installment seeks to explain in its basic concepts the genesis and scientific support of the tool to be used. The Innovation Diamond, with each of the eight points, determines the importance of these as an assessment support against cases related to innovation, be it for a country, city, company, or business sector. In addition, it determines the different scopes that it may have to finally determine priority strategies in this matter to be applied. In the second part, the operative part of the tool will be shown. Once the component and basic actions of the Innovation Diamond have been explained, the genesis and creation of its “green version” is revealed. Finally, this article shows the real scope of the instrument, reviewing each of the cases for which it was used at the level of countries, companies, and academia between 2019 and part of 2021.

Solutions And Recommendations (Chapter-Specific Sections)

Having the Diamond as a diagnostic tool and source of strategies associated with the innovation of a City, country, company, business sector, it seeks to answer the following questions:

Key Terms in this Chapter

Cobweb of Innovation: The so-called Cobweb of Innovation has as its main objective to rank countries, cities, under three levels, according to the score given by each of the eight points of the Diamond. Its possibilities are three levels: high, medium, and low. To locate the countries, cities, at each level, the scores given by each indicator are taken into account. Thus, if the score is 100 points at most, being in the 100-80 point range, it will correspond to a high level, it will correspond to the Green Strip or space.

Strategic Mother Matrix: This matrix, based on the results analyzed in the Web of Innovation for each of the eight points, locates for each point (of the eight) of the Diamond, which allows knowing if these are a priority (Red Stripe, score 3), average level of to observe (Yellow Strip), at the level of reference of good practices in the world (Green Strip). The first column from left to right has the main indicator and its sub-indicators. The second, called “International” are the scores of good practices recognized as “Good Practices” or reference to follow. Then follows the country that is being studied, it can be a City. Next comes the company or business group and lastly, the strategic priority, where “3” is the maximum” and with a double asterisk, it means immediate application, See Table 3 .

Contribution to the Diamond of Innovation (CDI): These are the contributions that authors, nations, studios, and companies make to the Diamond of Innovation and its eight points from the epistemological point of view.

Green Innovation: It is one that meets at least 80% of the requirements, evaluated by the Green Diamond. It can and should be put into action. It must have instruments for continuous monitoring and, if necessary, adjustments.

Innovation Gap: Within the Web of Innovation, it is the space that exists, between the country, city, etc., observed and the world references. It reveals the distance in achievements and strategies that the country, city studied, has with respect to the leading countries for each point of the Diamond. Knowing the determining aspects of this “GAP of Innovation” will serve to have a reference of the Company that we are analyzing according to its geographical location according to the country, city, where it is located. These results will be able to show us, in the end, how this Firm, Company, Farm, Business at a global, national level, etc., are facing Innovation, and therefore what strategic priorities it must face in the matter. Therefore, their data help the resulting Mother Matrix.

Innovation to Reform: It is one that meets at least 40% of the requirements, evaluated by the Green Diamond. It cannot and must not be set in motion. You need to make the suggested changes to reach at least 80% of the assessed requirements. Likewise, it must have continuous monitoring instruments and determine a schedule of actions and personnel in charge, associated with the required modifications.

Levels of the Web of Innovation: The levels mark the strategic priority. If it is at a high level (Green Strip), it will have a score of 1 in the so-called Strategic Mother Matrix, which will be explained later, in the “Strategic Priority Rating” Column, that is, this item is at a higher level. for the analyzed variable, close to the reference countries, or with the highest score in the analyzed indicator, which has in the second column (from left to right) called “International”, the maximum scores and in the box a black dot, which highlights the highest score. Figure No 3.

Green Version of the Diamond: It is the version of the Diamond of Innovation, which evaluates the environmental impact of the use of an innovation in a product, service, process, raw material, in a project or start-up phase, or in search of an improvement, for a company, group of companies, city and country or group of countries.

Innovation Rejected: It is one that does not meet at least 40% of the requirements, evaluated by the Green Diamond. It cannot and must not be set in motion. Their actions could create serious environmental damage. Its structure should be reviewed and a new version should be considered from scratch, emphasizing the unfulfilled items.

Poll on the Points of the Innovation Diamond: This survey collects data on the analyzed population, be it company, city, etc., and on the behavior or state of affairs, of each of the eight Diamond points for the case and population under analysis. If the status is critical, it will correspond to a red dot in the “Strategic Mother Matrix”. If it has a black dot in this matrix, it is because that item of any of the eight Diamond points is a reference to follow as a “Best Practice” worldwide.

Environmental PPP Alliances: They are strategic alliances, which include organizations, of public and private capital, whose purpose is the search to generate processes, value chaines, products, services, supplies, with low environmental impact.
