Main Body

Women constitute half of society and their participation can be effective in its development and progress. The chapter is focused on providing understanding on the essence of women leadership and how it impacts the organizational culture in organizations based in Switzerland. For this purpose, a profound literature review with a focus on the sociological and management theories has been carried. What is more, the goal of the chapter is to present the influence that women leaders in Switzerland have on the organizations. Does the gender play role regarding company’s performance? In order to understand this a survey has been used in a form of offline questionnaire among 150 managers and employees in organizations based in Switzerland.

Self-report method has been used to complete this research questionnaire. The study shows that the majority of respondents, 80% of the participants find their work environment as desirable. 94% of the participants describe it as average and good the organizational culture. More than 70% of the participants describe as desirable and good their organizational values and more than 74% of the participants have declared positive attitudes towards gender-based leadership. Research hypothesis test has been confirmed that women’s leadership affect positively and significantly on the organizational culture, on organizational values and working conditions and organizational environment in organizations based in Switzerland. To sum it up, women’s leadership in organizations based in Switzerland has been able to have a positive effect on the controlled organizations.

The progress of the companies depends on leader and its ability to adapt and be proactive. However, their influence depends on their gender, whether male or female. The influence of a female manager differs significantly from having a male manager as the studies conducted across the globe show that female leaders have a distinct influence on organizational, values, culture, and climate compared to male managers (GENEVA, 2019; MEGAN, 2020). However, studies have yet to be conducted concerning the influence of women's leadership on the organizational culture of organizations based in Switzerland.

When it comes to work environment, only 24 companies of the Fortune Global 500 (i.e., 4.8%) have female CEOs, according to Steffens et al., 2019. The statistics for Europe shows that women on top managerial positions at the top 100 companies represent just 15% (Steffens et al., 2019. The effects of different gender compositions at the top-level of organizations on a whole range of potentially important outcome variables by studying the consequences of balanced gender compositions as well as male or female majorities for female leaders have been highlighted by Steffens et al., 2019 as women are considered of being warm and caring, while men are associated with agentic traits such as being competent and assertive (Steffens et al., 2019).
