Accessibility of Digital Higher Education in the Global South, authored by Pfano Mashau and Tshililo Farisani from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is an academic book that examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on higher education in Africa. The book aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the sustainability of the “new normal” approaches in African universities and institutions of learning as well as government responses to teaching and learning processes during and post pandemic.

The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 triggered demands for informal, comfortable, and self-designed spaces that go beyond conventional formal classrooms where students can take initiative and demonstrate independence in learning. However, access to digitalized teaching methods remains problematic due to the digital divide among learners and the rural-urban dichotomy. The book invites researchers, academics, and scholars in the Global South to contribute to the narrative to document successes in and improve the higher education sector post pandemic. The book covers a range of themes including the sustainability of digitalized teaching approaches; integrative and interactive teaching and learning theories and practices; government responses to teaching and learning processes; comparative analysis of conventional and digitalized teaching and learning approaches; and equality, diversity, and participation in digitalized teaching and learning platforms, among others.

Editor/Author Biographies
Pfano Mashau is an academic at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, School of Entrepreneurship and Management. He holds a PhD in Management. He also has various non-degree career development certificates acquired from short programmes (Locally and Internationally). As an academic, he is involved in lecturing at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His research focus is on Small Business Development, Innovation, Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Agglomeration Economies. Prior to working as an academic, he worked for JET Education Services, BioRegional and a few small businesses. Prof Mashau has published over 40 research articles, supervised eight doctoral theses to completion, and over 20 Masters dissertations. Some of the research work has been presented in international conferences. He has been an editor for a journal and a book. He is a member of the Pan African Research Council and the Institute of Business Advisors. He was briefly appointed as eThekwini Municipality City Planning Commissioner. Prof Mashau aspires to see researchers conducting impactful and life-changing research studies.
Tshililo Ruddy Farisani (PhD) is an Independent Scholar and active member of South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) who continues to write and publish book chapters and journals with various global publishers. Dr Farisani has travelled and continues to travel the globe presenting papers on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He has over 20 years of experience as a former business owner and project manager of various projects. He has published over 10 research papers as a University of KwaZulu – Natal researcher in the last 12 months. He is a 2019/20 Bergen Summer Research School fellow and a 2018-2021 Researcher in the National Research Foundation’s South African Research Chair Initiative (SARCHI) in Sustainable Local (Rural) Livelihoods. His research focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation and the sustainability of livelihoods.
