Description & Coverage
Description:

The inadequate use of wireless spectrum resources has recently motivated researchers and practitioners to look for new ways to improve resource efficiency. As a result, new cognitive radio technologies have been proposed as an effective solution.

The Handbook of Research on Software-Defined and Cognitive Radio Technologies for Dynamic Spectrum Management examines the emerging technologies being used to overcome radio spectrum scarcity. Providing timely and comprehensive coverage on topics pertaining to channel estimation, spectrum sensing, communication security, frequency hopping, and smart antennas, this research work is essential for use by educators, industrialists, and graduate students, as well as academicians researching in the field.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Channel Allocation
  • Channel Reservation
  • Cognitive Radio
  • Microelectromechanical Systems
  • Modulations Techniques
  • Predictive Models

Editor/Author Biographies
Naima Kaabouch received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. all in Electrical Engineering from the University of Paris 11 and the University of Paris 6, Paris, France, in 1982, 1986, 1990, respectively. She is currently an Assistant Professor, in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of North Dakota. Dr. Kaabouch's research interests include configurable computing, real time systems, and signal/image processing. She published over 80 articles on refereed journal, proceedings, and books. In the green computing field, she is the co-editod two books. While teaching, she developed and taught several courses in the field of configurable computing and real time systems involving microcontrollers and Field Programmable Gate Array devices-based devices.
Wen-Chen Hu received a BE, an ME, an MS, and a PhD, all in Computer Science, from Tamkang University, Taiwan, the National Central University, Taiwan, the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 1984, 1986, 1993, and 1998, respectively. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science of the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University, Alabama, for years. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Handheld Computing Research (IJHCR) and an associate editor of the Journal of Information Technology Research (JITR), and has acted as editors and editorial advisory/review board members for over 30 international journals/books and served more than 30 tracks/sessions and program committees for international conferences. He has also won a couple of awards of best papers, best reviewers, and community services. Dr. Hu has been teaching more than 10 years at the US universities and over 10 different computer/IT-related courses, and advising more than 50 graduate students. He has published over 100 articles in refereed journals, conference proceedings, books, and encyclopedias, edited seven books and conference proceedings, and solely authored a book titled Internet-Enabled Handheld Devices, Computing, and Programming: Mobile Commerce and Personal Data Applications. His current research interests include handheld/mobile/smartphone/tablet computing, location-based services, Web-enabled information system such as search engines and Web mining, electronic and mobile commerce systems, and Web technologies.
