Description & Coverage
Description:

The lack of formal semantics of applications and services to be integrated into business processes makes it difficult for software engineers and developers to interconnect heterogeneous applications.

Semantic Enterprise Application Integration for Business Processes: Service-Oriented Frameworks provides methods that incorporate and streamline processes that allow employees, decision makers, and industry partners to readily access corporate and customer data independent of where it resides. This advanced reference source provides the latest research findings in the design and development of business processes for academicians, researchers, and practitioners.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Cross-organizational business processes
  • Enterprise application architectures
  • Enterprise application integration
  • Enterprise interoperability
  • Light-weight semantic integration
  • Semantic Interoperability
  • Semantic service discovery
  • Semantic Web service
  • Tourism Industry
  • Web Service Discovery
Reviews & Statements

This book provides compelling arguements, use cases and practical solutions to one of the most important questions of our time: the relatinship between technology, business, and society. It also addresses some of the most difficult issues in process and service managment. The arguments presented are powerful and convincing for researchers, policy makers, business people, and scholars alike.

Editor/Author Biographies
Gregoris Mentzas, (PhD), is professor of information management at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and director of the Information Management Unit (IMU), a multidisciplinary research unit at the University. He serves in the Board of Directors of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems of NTUA (2006-2009). His area of expertise is information technology management and his research concerns the integration of knowledge management, semantic web and e-service technologies, collaboration and workflow management, corporate knowledge management in e-government and e-business settings. He has spoken at conferences and guest seminars worldwide, and is internationally known for his scholarly work in the area of knowledge management and e-government. Dr. Mentzas holds a Diploma Degree in Engineering (1984) and a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Information Systems (1988), both from NTUA. He also was a Visiting Fellow in the UK, in the area of information management systems and business transformation (1996-1997).
Andreas Friesen, (PhD), is senior researcher and project manager at SAP Research. His research interests comprise for more than 4 years application of semantic technologies in software engineering. He is currently working on new technologies merging model-driven and ontology-driven software engineering methods. In this role he is shaping the vision of hybrid software engineering approach combining the benefits of the well established software modeling methodology with the expressive descriptive power of ontologies and logical reasoning and its application for SAP and partner ecosystem. Previously he was coordinating a project on semantic business process fusion for heterogeneous Enterprise Applications especially providing process-oriented interoperability solutions for cross-organizational application integration scenarios. Dr. Friesen has been with SAP Research for over 4 years, working on different research projects. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Siegen and is author of around 30 articles and scientific papers.
