Abstract

Currently, countries are opting for the best solutions for conserving their architectural heritage. The solution may be the intervention of the present architectural heritage, rehabilitation, and reuse of it by maintaining a social-cultural setting and economic stability. However, preserving all sorts of architectural heritage is not possible due to its economic status. Researchers are finding solutions to retain it for the future. For getting solutions, different literature has been identified and analyzed for bibliometric analysis. This chapter offers the bibliometric analysis of the architectural heritage concerning multi-criteria decision-making analysis, which considers qualitative and quantitative parameters in a hierarchy and involves opinions of stakeholders in a transparent manner. This chapter aims to find various themes from the database as the core, current, emerging, and saturated themes for the evaluation of architectural heritage. It also focuses on analyzing the quantification of the articles and conceptualizing of the emerging areas of research.

Introduction

Bibliometric is a kind of statistical method, which analyses books, articles, and other publications. This method is frequently used in the fields of library and information science (Aria & Cuccurullo, 2017). However, this method is used in almost all areas for getting the bibliometric data, base theme, current theme, outdated, and emerging theme of particular research.

Further, bibliometric analysis is also used in the analysis of scientific publications, which is known as scientometrics. Citation analysis is a frequently used bibliometric method concerning the construction of the citation graph, network graph, and analysis representing sight distance between documents.

Many researchers are using bibliometric methods to explore the impact of their field. Numerous countries are trying to get the best solution for conservation, and restorations are the use of heritage buildings and their cultural-historical and spiritual values. Leading international organizations, governmental agencies, and scientific researchers are analyzing these problems concerning architectural heritage.

Architectural heritage is the combination of diverse field and exhibits dynamic consequences to the contemporary society concerning its architectural elegance, historical backdrop, economic practicability, and environmental and ecological behaviour. These are the broad dimensions while evaluating the architectural heritage of a place for its further decision-making process. These dimensions have further sub-dimensions and parameters which are directly or indirectly affecting the heritage site and surroundings. For evaluating architectural heritage with a hierarchical complex model, satisfying all sorts of experts and relevant stakeholders, parameters having qualitative and quantitative values, and comparatively easy, transparent mechanisms for solving solutions need the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) analysis.

In the process of evaluation of architectural heritage with the help of MCDM, identifying the literature database, and dealing with that database is the primary concern of this chapter. From this bibliometric data analysis, the study focuses on the trends and patterns exhibited from the existing literature. Many questions arise for analyzing the bibliometric data analysis are:

  • Which are the reasons for the evaluation of an architectural heritage?

  • How to search?

  • What is the database that needs to select?

  • What should be the inclusive and exclusive criteria for the database selection?

  • What are the tools and techniques present for this type of study?

By proposing such a study, this chapter contains various sections. The first section deals with related works. The second section deals with the methods having the research question, research design and search query, bibliographic query, and tools and techniques used for this research. The third section deals with the analysis and results obtained from the bibliometric data. The final section deals with the conclusion and future scope to find out the emerging fields of evaluation of architectural heritage.
