Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Special Education: AI Therapeutic Pedagogy for Language Disorders

Abstract

This chapter explores the role of AI in addressing language impairments and Language-Based Learning Disorders (LBLDs) in Special Education (SE). It distinguishes between these conditions and their unique challenges. It examines the intersection of language impairments and AI, analyzing how AI-based technologies can support individuals with articulation, fluency, voice, and broader language disorders. The discussion includes an assessment of the potential benefits and limitations of AI-powered interventions. It also explores the application of AI in addressing LBLDs, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and Auditory Processing Disorder (ADP). It investigates how AI-driven tools and techniques can enhance assessment, diagnosis, and remediation of these learning disorders, with a focus on personalized and adaptive learning.
