Abstract

Forgiveness has been shown to significantly impact learning, social well-being, and psychological health. A systematic review of 82 research articles, narrowed down to 51 based on specific objectives and PRISMA guidelines, uncovers key insights into how forgiveness and resentment influence human behavior. Internalized anger and resentment are found to negatively affect learning abilities, while forgiveness fosters improvements in both cognitive function and emotional well-being. Powerful emotions like anger, though challenging, can also stimulate learning. As forgiveness reduces anger, anxiety, and depression, self-esteem and mindfulness increase, enhancing overall social and psychological well-being. These findings highlight the transformative power of forgiveness in promoting mental health and cognitive growth.
