Abstract

As augmented reality (AR) technologies gain widespread adoption in critical infrastructure, their cybersecurity risks require thorough assessment. AR systems process and overlay real-time data, creating vulnerabilities such as adversarial AI manipulations, social engineering attacks, and data integrity threats. This chapter examines AR cybersecurity challenges and proposes advanced defense mechanisms. AI-driven anomaly detection enhances threat identification, blockchain ensures data integrity, and quantum-resistant cryptography safeguards against future quantum threats. Additionally, global collaboration among governments, industries, and academia is crucial for establishing standardized security protocols. A multi-layered cybersecurity framework strengthens AR resilience in sensitive domains. Future research must refine AI-driven threat intelligence, integrate post-quantum encryption, and develop interoperable security frameworks.
