Abstract

This chapter explores the transformative potential of collaborative mosaics in education through a rhizomatic lens, blending arts-based multiple literacies and critical pedagogy. Through a case study from Brazil, the chapter demonstrates how participants engage in collaborative mosaic workshops to explore their identities, and how the production of visual thought enables community engagement. By intertwining personal narratives, the mosaics challenge conventional literacy norms and support knowledge democracy. The chapter also offers practical steps for facilitating collaborative mosaics, emphasizing their educational significance in fostering critical thinking, creativity, and social justice, grounded in Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy framework.
