What Is Corruption?

Although disagreements exist, corruption can be simply defined as the misuse of public power for personal gains. To make it elaborate, one can say that corruption refers to decisions that politicians and public bureaucrats make, and those decisions are conferred on them based on authority delegated to them by the populace. When these decisions are directed to have personal gains rather than by the public's interest, this is considered corruption. Corruption exists in a broad framework although there are many variations like administrative corruption, political corruption, etc. Administrative or petty corruption refers to acts of bribery, kickbacks, and grease money when public officials make money from bribes and a part of the profit favoring a particular contractor in an existing decision.
