Abstract

Saudi government pays high attention to the public sectors, such as Saudi Port Authority, in order to gain high level of competition in the global market. Saudi ports, which are considered as one of the busiest ports in the world, and the largest in the Middle East area. However, it has recently faced a severe problem of overstock of commodities. Although, the ports have significant contribution to the local economy, but, improper work environments and the heavy duty of the work has resulted in dissatisfaction and a low level of employees comments among cargo employees, which results in overstock of commodities at Saudi Ports Authority. Questionnaires were distributed to 365 government workers in the cargo sector, 285 were filled up. The outcomes of the study imply that work stress and working conditions may positively affect employee commitment, and that job happiness is an essential factor that workers can embrace in reaching their goals. On the other hand, workplace stress and working conditions might enhance commitment indirectly by giving job satisfaction.

Introduction

Employees play a significant function in the company as a stimulant, allowing them to complete the job commitment. Commitment is a necessary reaction to an individual's responsibility to finish a job with limited resources and time restrictions (Vance, 2006). Employee commitment is defined as conduct that is important to the organization's goals is measurable, observable, and develops over time (Rameshkumar, 2020). Problems that have established a trend in companies, particularly in the government personnel environment, demonstrate that employees' dedication needs to match organizational objectives. The issues with Employee satisfaction, unhappiness with work, unsupportive working environment, and work stress difficulties contribute to the failure to enhance employee commitment to the business (Schermerhorn et al.,2020). This is because the job done does not correspond to the employee's wishes, so the work cannot offer satisfaction to the employee with the work done. Employment contentment concerns a person's overall attitude toward his or her work; a man with a high degree of job satisfaction has a good attitude toward his or her work, whereas a guy who is dissatisfied with the job has a negative attitude toward his or her work (Alzalabani, 2017). According to Kattuah (2013), Saudi ports are one of the world's busiest ports; however, due to work stress in the form of extra work and heavy burdens in an unsafe work environment, workers in the cargo section have a low level of satisfaction and commitment, which result in cargo overstock (Elentably, 2015; Buchari & Basri, 2015). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the world's largest oil exporter. It boasts the most extensive and diverse economy in the Middle East, with internationally focused manufacturing exports. As a result, the Kingdom must have efficient, properly equipped ports to execute the work as it should be done. Employee happiness has remained a topic of discussion in companies as a matter of enjoying and disliking when at work Job satisfaction is a personal experience.

; every person has a distinct amount of this job satisfaction depending on their wants and value systems (Amin, 2021), as well as up to which their work happiness satisfies their requirements (Jayaweera, 2015). The greater the degree of satisfaction, the more the particular employee enjoys their work (Kurniawaty et al., 2019). Employee happiness is influenced by not only the work but also the workload of employees, which is not in line with reality, causing stress. According to McShane and Glinow (2017), behavioral, bodily, and psychological reactions might give a product, such as stress or stress. Because work-related stress has a significant influence on employee contentment with their employment (Greer, 2021), Kurniawaty et al. (2019); Jehangir et al. (2011). The study of Venkataraman and Ganapathi (2013) demonstrates that stress in the work process has fallen, even if the outcomes are obtained. This is similar to the findings of Riaz et al. (2016) and Essiam et al. (2015), who found that a high workload reduces employee commitment, and This demonstrates that workplace stress has a direct influence on employees., resulting in lower work results and lower expected job satisfaction (Greer, 2021). However, challenges in organizations, particularly in dealing with and managing employees, can be recognized by proposing numerous study questions, such as:

  • What is the impact of Work Stress on employees' job satisfaction?

  • What is the impact of Work Environment on employees' commitment?

  • What is the impact of Job Satisfaction on employees' commitment?

  • What is the impact of Job satisfaction as mediating element between the work stress, work environment and commitment?
