Abstract

A culturally relevant literacy program embraces diversity in the student body to support the unique needs of the students. With diverse populations, it is important to teach in culturally appropriate ways which include school, home, and community involvement. Culturally relevant teaching empowers students intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Providing quality, equitable STEM education requires rethinking of curriculum, instruction, and assessment that value students' cultural practices. Culturally relevant teaching nurtures self-identity and belonging, making STEM subjects relevant to all students. Furthermore, the inclusion of culturally responsive practices in the curriculum helps students develop the skills, empathy, and confidence needed to excel in a multicultural and interconnected world. This chapter underscores the transformative potential of culturally responsive teaching in creating equitable educational opportunities and preparing future generations for success.
