Abstract

The development of researcher identity is crucial for early-career scholars, enhancing productivity, research capabilities, and academic competitiveness. This study uses an instrumental case study approach to explore how four early-career researchers in English for academic purposes (EAP) developed their professional identities. Through open-ended interviews and field notes, the study examines their identity formation process at the MA level in Applied Linguistics at a mid-sized university in Turkey. It specifically focuses on their perceptions of collaboration, self-efficacy, overcoming psychological barriers, and positioning within the research community. The study highlights the need for additional support in developing professional identities, particularly through acquiring technological competencies
