Abstract

The concept of naming functions as a political corpus of marking the bodies so that the power of control is piped appropriately by the phallogocentric order. Weaving in Bengal has remained as industries that unmark the women weavers from their basic pay. The gender crisis faced by women weavers in West Bengal, particularly in regions like Shantipur, and Phulia, is a multifaceted issue deeply rooted in socio-economic factors. Women weavers often face unequal pay compared to their male counterparts for similar work. They are sometimes exploited by middlemen who control the market, leading to unfair compensation for their labor. This chapter will examine in depth the government policies, socio-cultural discrimination, and wage gap of the women weavers of Shantipur and Fulia districts of West Bengal under a deconstructive feminist theory with an empirical methodology that will also present the intersectionalities of marginalization that the women weavers of West Bengal face.
