Abstract

The research shows that the blockchain has a wide range of healthcare applications including electronic medical records, drug and pharmaceutical supply chain management, biomedical research and education, remote patient monitoring, health data analysis, among others. A number of blockchain-based healthcare applications have been developed as examples based on emerging blockchain paradigms, such as smart contracts, etc. In this research, a health chain system is introduced. HealthChain is an online portal that maintains a digital copy of a patient's medical history, along with all his/her diagnoses, prescriptions, and medical receipts.

Overview

As previously mentioned, HealthChain addresses a major loophole of the medicine industry in terms of prescriptions from doctors via physical paper which have a great probability for getting lost, tampered and a number of threats that come along the way. There is a chance that a person might produce a tampered prescription for a medication that might be illegal or can be harmful or be banned via government protocols. This will engender some of the major threats to our society. We have already witnessed some of the cases in association with teenagers addicted to drugs and thus staking their whole life and career due to this lifestyle. This is an alarm for us to give back and strengthen this system so that the future generations can access only the legitimate prescriptions only prescribed by the doctor. Another pitfall in the current system is the storage of the history of data. For instance, if a person if suffering for an age-old chronic disease like Diabetes and chooses to change his/her doctor due to any reason. The concerned authorities have no reliable source of the history of his/her medication. This problem however is looked upon and solved in the current study. Successful transactions in blockchain technology implies the data storage, security and retrieval based upon the keys of the concerned authority (Wei et al., 2020). Once the data and history in electronically saved, it can be retrieved at anyone point in time without finding the bundles of paper.
