Abstract

Mathematics is a very important human venture that finds its applications in all spheres of life. Despite this importance attached to it, the interest and performance in it is dismal. This is as a result of how it is taught. There is every need for teaching it better, thus the need for innovative and powerful approaches. This is this concept is “used to identify the knowledge and capabilities required to accommodate the mathematical demands of private and public life, and to participate in society as informed, reflective, and contributing citizens.” Therefore, letting the students make sense of the mathematical content they learn can have a significant positive impact on multiple dimensions of their lives. Math enhances our capacity to deal with these kinds of day-to-day challenges. There is a need to develop innovative learning environments that benefit all learners. The second theme is centered on how both tasks and tools can be used to support powerful pedagogical practices. Finally, the third theme reviews the challenges of developing innovative mathematical learning environments.
