Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is transforming education, particularly in foreign language teaching, such as French. It raises questions about its impact on core linguistic skills like listening comprehension and writing. GAI tools, including chatbots and conversation simulators, offer opportunities for immersive and enriching interactions. Defining effective interaction strategies between learners and these systems is crucial to foster engagement and knowledge acquisition, while considering the diverse skill levels of learners. Integrating GAI into educational programs presents practical and ethical challenges that require careful evaluation of risks and opportunities. New methods for assessing language skills must be developed, focusing on personalized and continuous approaches. To maximize GAI's potential, close collaboration among didactic experts, teachers, and AI developers is essential to ensure its ethical and harmonious integration into education, ultimately enhancing the learning experience and adapting to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
